About Lillian Hunter
My background in private industry, secondary and post-secondary education, and community service for the past three decades provides me with a unique understanding of the complex challenges facing governance, public education, workforce preparation, and the needs of the business community in the 21st century. I have established a reputation as a problem seeker and a problem solver. In addition to my work in education, I proudly served as Chair of the Tacoma Public Library Board of Trustees. I was honored to serve five years as Trustee of Bates Technical College including one year as Board Chair. I was elected to the Tacoma City Council - Position 6 and began a four year term in 2018. I enjoyed my work representing the residents of this fine city! • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Strong project management skills • Financial acumen: budgets experience and contracts management • Skilled in policy, program, and curriculum development and implementation • Ability to lead change in organizations • Ability to bring people together with divergent points of view to develop mutual objectives and goals • Ability to lead and train teams of people, function as a team member and manage tasks as necessary to complete the project • Experienced in navigating the Legislative process at local, state and federal levels • Ability to work vertically and horizontally within an organization and with a broad and diverse set of constituents externally • Able to understand complex problems, develop customized solutions, and manage projects to completion • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities amidst continual change • Strong belief that sustainable change happens through and with people – not to people
