As a selected participant in the NPWEE Academy, sponsored by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, I am currently serving as a scientist and editor on a multidisciplinary team developing a proposal for a competitive grant.Our proposed innovation is a tethered drone companion for planetary rovers, designed to enhance surface exploration on Mars and other celestial bodies. Inspired by the success of the Ingenuity Helicopter and challenges faced by the Perseverance and Mars Sample Fetch Rovers, our drone system is stored and charged beneath the rover chassis. Once deployed, it expands the rover’s operational capabilities by improving terrain navigation, assisting in sample collection, extending scouting range, and supporting manipulation tasks, ultimately enhancing scientific return and exploration efficiency.Through this experience, I’ve gained hands-on skills in NASA-style proposal writing, technical solution development, and peer evaluation, building expertise that will serve me in future aerospace and robotics innovation efforts.
