ABOUT LIJA DIEM M.
Bouncing around the U.S. growing up, literally and figuratively, Lija Diem landed in Lancaster, returning to the city of her mother’s Latvian refugee roots. After diving deep into the humanities of education and English education at Pennsylvania State University, Leiden University, the University of Virginia, and Millersville University, Lija met her goal of completing a Master of Education degree as well as her master’s thesis focusing on the use of the visual in writing. Lija has taught English in both the secondary, public school classroom as well as in higher education, creating reading curriculums, developing a metacognitive and revisionist approach to the writing process, designing dynamic student community engagement programs, and (perhaps most of all) managing to match the vitality of even the most energized 8th graders. Lija cherishes building community, connectivity, and creativity, all essential ingredients of her college composition courses as well as her yoga classes. Coming from a space of boundless energy and enthusiasm, Lija finds joy in facilitating adventure, formulating creative logistics, and igniting curiosity both on and off the yoga mat.
