About Lidia Cucurull
Program Manager, Principal Research Scientist, highly skilled in Data Assimilation, proposal development, budgeting, technical planning and leading teams for product delivery. I lead the quantitative evaluation and optimization of impact on current and proposed observations for Earth systems analysis and forecasting, including Observing System Experiments (OSEs) and Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs). I oversee teams to investigate the complementarity of different observing systems for atmospheric and oceanic measurements from in situ sensors, aircraft and UAS platforms, and satellite remote sensing to include government and commercial systems. Results of this work help NOAA management prioritize mission designs in a cost-effective way. I hold a B.S. degree in Physics and M.S. degree in Theoretical Physics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and a Ph. D. in Physics from the University of Barcelona. I have worked at UCAR, NASA, CU/CIRES and NOAA, and have won several national awards in recognition of my work, including the UCAR Outstanding Scientific and Technology Advancement Award (2007) and the NOAA David Johnson Award (2011). I became a “Fellow” of the American Meteorological Society in 2016.
