Current company DKT International
Non-Profit Organizations · 1.1K employees · Founded 1989 · Washington, District Of Columbia, United States
Since 1989, DKT International, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C., has promoted family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention through social marketing in the developing world. Today, DKT delivers health impact at scale across more than 100 countries. We believe family planning is key to healthier men, women, and communities, but choice is key to empowerment. DKT helps women and men take control of their reproductive lives by boosting decision-making power through educational campaign, expanding product options, and securing affordable products in easy-to-access outlets.
Choice is integral to our mission; innovation is the foundation of our work. With nearly 3,000 employees worldwide, DKT operates through four approaches: 1) classic social marketing, leveraging the private sector to distribute products and deliver education across society, from young women to healthcare providers, often the gatekeepers to contraception; 2) regional product sales that build brands and transnational trust; 3) our 2016 acquisition of WomanCare Global, strengthening distribution of high-quality safe abortion products; and 4) online resources reaching people beyond our institutional programs.
DKT is also one of the sector's most cost-effective providers, self-financing about 83% of our costs and achieving results at under $1 per Couple Year of Protection (CYP) since 2022, so every donor dollar leverages significant additional impact.
In 2025, DKT delivered more than 70 million CYPs, making us one of the largest private family planning providers globally. DKT’s sales totals for 2025 included 1 billion condoms, 136.6 million oral contraceptives, 37.3 million injectable/emergency contraceptives, 6 million IUDs, and more than 39 million safe abortion products, like misoprostol and MVA kits. These averted an estimated 55,400 maternal deaths, 22.6 million unsafe abortions, and 27.8 million unintended pregnancies.
