ABOUT LESLIE JOHNSTON

My expertise is in the management of digital initiatives in cultural heritage and academic institutions. I have led large-scale initiatives to manage and preserve digital collections and electronic records; created policies and led organizational change initiatives; developed new digital and web-based resources for teaching and learning in an academic research environment; and guided the integration of collections and online resources into organizational use. Through this work I have developed an understanding of both the research needs of users and the requirements of archives and libraries for creating and preserving digital collections and the management of information resources. For many years I was active in the museum automation community, working for various museums, teaching courses on museum systems, founding the online journal eSpectra, editing the print journal Spectra, and serving on the board of the Museum Computer Network (MCN).Specialties: Experience in digital library and archive strategic planning, program management, implementation and integration of new initiatives, and operations management. Skilled in implementing and managing processes that translate vision and functional requirements into production services. Effective at facilitating communication between stakeholders and technical staff. Expertise in digital library and archival community standards and production technologies.
