My work at PCLC is exciting and challenging – no two days are ever the same. In 2009, I began as the Office Manager and in 2018, I was promoted to Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director and Development Officer. As Development Officer, I am responsible for:• Planning, implementation, and management of three major fundraising campaigns • Developing and maintaining relationships with donors at every levelAs Administrative Assistant, I assist the Executive Director by:• Assuring that our students receive excellent customer service • Supervising bookkeeping, data entry, and office clerical staffAs Office Manager, I am responsible for:• Budgeting and payroll • Facilities management • Tech support• Management of our Pearson Vue and HiSET testing site and personnel• Test proctoring• IdentoGO Fingerprinting site management • Scheduling student transportation• Inventory control

ABOUT LESLIE HEIMBAUGH
Everything I thought I knew about working with people changed about ten years ago when I started working at the Perry County Literacy Council (PCLC). That\'s when I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Cultural anthropologist and writer Margaret Mead (19••••78) once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it\'s the only thing that ever has.” These wise words sum up my feelings precisely for the work we do at PCLC, where our top priority is helping our clients to overcome their personal barriers and move forward toward self-sufficiency. Kathleen Bentley, our Executive Director, is my inspiration. Her vast experience working with adjudicated youth informs our policies and procedures. We assess every student\'s needs individually, and then together as an agency, we employ many different strategies to provide the maximum support to help our students reach their goals. I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications, where I have built my writing and communication skills in support of my goal to become a more significant asset to PCLC. I maintained a 3.99 GPA, made the Dean’s List every semester, and I was thrilled to be named 2020 class valedictorian.Returning to college later in life was one of the most difficult challenges that I have ever faced. At the same time, I have never felt more inspired and alive. In many ways, I feel as if I have just been awakened from a long nap by an explosion of knowledge and personal growth. Everything has a deeper meaning, and each day brings the promise of acquiring new skills and more information that will help mold me into the person I aspire to be. The kindness and generosity that I have experienced from the faculty and staff at Central Penn, the Board and staff of PCLC, and my family are overwhelming; I find myself filled with tremendous gratitude for this opportunity.
