I currently work at The New York Times as a Staff Engineer & Tech Lead, focusing on making systems observable and reliable. Previous to The Times, I spent all of my career on edtech teams as an engineer, including Google for Education and other edtech startups. In my previous roles I have focused on building robust data pipelines, setting technical strategy, building excellent engineering teams & communities, and reliability management. Some more specifics include setting org-wide vision & strategy for observability, improving on-call processes, adopting chaos engineering practices, and cultivating culture that builds with the most vulnerable employees in mind first.    Tech Lead focused on developing shared platforms, technical vision and strategy, and mentoring senior engineers- Crafted Operations Engineering technical vision & strategy, lead standardization working groups for Operations & Reliability Engineering, built internal Node.js observability package using OpenTelemetry- Technical lead on ”Tracing Everywhere” initiative, collaborating with 40+ engineering teams to define scope, technical design & implementation with OpenTelemetry standard. Primary challenges include language & infrastructure drift, vendor compatibility, driving adoption, and getting executive level approval.
