   Established in 2001, CHERP is a Health Systems Research Center of Innovation with a primary focus on improving the equity and quality of health and healthcare for marginalized Veteran populations and generating evidence to inform related healthcare policies. CHERP includes 59 Core and 17 Affiliate investigators with backgrounds in medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, social work, public health, sociology, psychology, economics, and biostatistics, among others. CHERP provides an outstanding scientific infrastructure to facilitate innovative, high-impact health services research; training, career development, and mentoring of staff, trainees, and early- and mid-career investigators; shareholder (e.g, Veterans and healthcare staff) engagement; partnerships with local, regional, and national operations and policy leaders; and translation of research findings into clinical practice and policy. As a member of CHERP’s executive leadership team, my primary responsibilities include directing CHERP’s research and service activities to achieve equity-related impact goals, directing all Center activities and serving as the primary liaison in the occasional absence of the Center Director; facilitating community and VA operational and clinical partnerships; and facilitating VA and academic collaborations. I also participate in CHERP’s recruitment of new investigators in partnership with our academic affiliate, the University of Pittsburgh. Finally, I assist in overseeing CHERP’s operating budget, which includes over $17 million annually from VA, NIH, other federal agencies, and philanthropic sources.
