About Leshanshui

I am a graduate student in Urban Education Policy at Brown University with an interdisciplinary foundation in East Asian Studies and Music, bringing cross-cultural insight and systems-level analysis to global education reform.My research examines how culture, governance, and social norms shape education systems and learning opportunity, with a focus on Chinese and transnational communities. Through longitudinal qualitative research on family–school dynamics, I analyze how beliefs about teacher authority and parental engagement influence policy implementation and educational equity. This work strengthens my ability to interpret education reform within its broader social and institutional context.I serve as Graduate Advisor to the Brown China Summit, where I supervise six panel directors and advise the President and Executive Board on strategy, coordination, and stakeholder engagement. This leadership role has strengthened my skills in governance support, cross-team alignment, and high-level communication—competencies essential in multilateral education environments.My five years in the Brown Jazz Band further shaped my cross-cultural competence. I collaborated with guest musicians from the US, Canada, Argentina, Japan, Brazil, Germany, and Syria—experiences that required adaptability, deep listening, and disciplined collaboration across diverse cultural traditions.Professionally, I have supported education policy analysis and program evaluation at the Rhode Island Department of Education and contributed to graduate-level instruction in research methodology. I am particularly interested in UNESCO Education Sector initiatives advancing inclusive, evidence-based, and culturally responsive education systems globally.
