   The Bail Investigative Unit assesses risk of defendants charged with criminal offense(s) in Allegheny County. The Bail Unit identifies both adult and juvenile defendants who may be eligible for bond and makes recommendations to judicial authorities based on the risk assessment for release conditions. Interviews are done face-to-face with females,juveniles, and high risk offenders. Adult males are conducted behind a giant glass window.The information received from the defendant and the prior criminal history is verified and entered into the risk assessment tool that is then provided to the Court for assistance in making release decisions. Probation officers are contacted for those already on probation (high impact) for possible automatic detainment. Defendants with active bench warrants who are arrested and lodged in the Allegheny County Jail are also interviewed by the Bail Investigators at which time those cases are prepared to be heard in the Court of Common Pleas Motions Court within 72 hours. All defendants who are processed through the Allegheny County Jail on new criminal charges, or defendants who are apprehended on active failure to appear warrants must be available, able and willing to be interviewed by the Bail Unit investigator
