ABOUT LEON LOBO
As the Head of the National Timing Centre at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), I lead our strategic direction for national resiliency in Time, Frequency and Synchronisation. I love my job! I proposed and led the development of the high-accuracy commercial Timing service into the City of London, NPLTime, a global first. I led a cross-government team developing the UK\'s first Timing Strategy, conceptualised and proposed the now developing National Timing Centre, recently embedded in UK PNT resilience policy as the source or \'heartbeat\' of our critical national infrastructure. As a chartered engineer, I have over 20 years of experience, and enjoy identifying, developing and delivering innovative and impactful solutions in the area of time and frequency, optical condition monitoring, laser interferometry, high-power laser processing and laser safety. In addition to several granted patents, I have also authored and contributed to a multitude of publications, as well as supporting national regulators implement and effect change through technical standards. I am passionate about advancing the UK\'s scientific and technological capabilities, currently ensuring that the UK has a world-leading time infrastructure enabling security, prosperity and our quality of life. I am far from fluent in Hindi and Swahili -), but can read, write and converse, and I thoroughly enjoy learning about new cultures.
