ABOUT LEONARDO MARIÑO-RAMÍREZ

I lead BioAnswers LLC, a computational biology consulting firm specializing in AI-driven protein and peptide binder design for clients across agriculture, pharmaceutical, oncology, and industrial biotechnology. Our work combines generative AI for protein structure design (RFdiffusion), sequence optimization (ProteinMPNN), and computational validation (AlphaFold2) to create novel protein-based solutions — from target identification through structural validation, with a clear path toward experimental testing and IP protection.Prior to founding BioAnswers, I spent over two decades at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), part of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where I served as a Staff Scientist in the Computational Biology Branch and held an NIH Stadtman Investigator appointment. My research spanned histone biology and chromatin structure (HistoneDB 2.0), nucleosome stability, protein-protein interactions, population genomics, and bioinformatics tool development — resulting in dozens of peer-reviewed publications in journals including Nucleic Acids Research, Database, BMC Bioinformatics, and PLoS Computational Biology.I am also a Strategic Partner at XperienX, an advisory firm accelerating innovation in global agricultural and biotechnology sectors.Areas of expertise:• AI-driven de novo protein and peptide design• Structural biology and protein engineering• Chromatin structure, histone biology, and nucleosome dynamics• Bioinformatics pipeline development and NGS analysis• Population genomics and ancestry inference• Computational infrastructure (GPU computing, Docker, cloud deployment)• Patent strategy for novel biomolecules
