About Leonardo Freyre

With over 25 years of experience in higher education and nonprofit finance, I am a passionate and strategic leader who drives financial sustainability and operational excellence for mission-driven organizations. As the CFO at Charles R Drew Charter School, I oversee the financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance for one of the largest and most innovative charter schools in Georgia, serving over 1,900 students from diverse backgrounds. I also collaborate with the board, senior leadership, staff, and external partners to align the financial strategy with the school\'s vision, goals, and values. Previously, I was the President of the New Jersey Bursars Association, where I led the professional development and advocacy for over 100 members from various colleges and universities. I also served as the Director for Business Affairs & Bursar at Rowan University, where I managed the student accounts, billing, collections, and financial aid operations for over students. In addition to my EdD in Higher Education Administration, I have strong analytical skills, staff development skills, and nonprofit organization skills, which enable me to optimize financial performance, foster a culture of learning and collaboration, and advance the educational outcomes and opportunities for the communities I serve.
