About Leonard Bubis

Growing up in Nashville, the home of country music and the modern healthcare industry, I had the unusual childhood goal of becoming a hospital administrator. But then, managed care appeared. Grasping the potential from such an approach, I became expert at the analytics essential for such a change in the approach to medical care delivery. This ability has served me exceptionally throughout my career experiences of rotation through large physician organizations, and for-profit and not-for hospitals and managed care organizations. Throughout these varied experiences, I have always tried to value both the needs of the patient/member and of finances within always dynamic environment. Such understanding has been tested and refined as my wife and children are all healthcare providers. And, healthcare spending as % of GDP doubled during my career. Having prowess and experience in both analytics and management, I frequently have been in the position to be the “translator” between the two. Understandings may be at odds, as numeric insight cannot generally reflect every essential consideration. There is common cause in the search for claim anomalies resulting from fraud, waste and abuse, however, excessive profitability is clearly in the eye of the beholder. I am passionate in the desire that health care be available to all individuals. I believe that through individual example of personal integrity and commitment, an organization may be steered on a course that does well by doing well. I have had successes and failures during my career, and have learned from each, but do believe that a single individual can make a difference. Oddly, the greatest “honor” that I have received during my career was a single compliment from someone who did not work for me, but called me “a player’s coach.” This was his recognition that I looked at each person in whatever their capacity as an individual who brings their own lifetime of experiences and singular perspectives. This incredible resource is generally untapped as the larger an organization becomes, the further its management is from its customers, and as vitally also from the unspoken knowledge within.
