ABOUT LEON KIMURA
A farming background gives me a practical common sense approach to problem solving. I am both creative and pragmatic while developing solutions with limited available resources, which was usually the case on a small, country farm. This fundamental grounding complements my education in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly where we \"learned by doing\". I enjoy working both independently and in teams to synthesize information and optimize solutions. I worked since my high school Senior year predominantly in city government in a career requiring attention to detail, human factors, creating complex collaborations and sensitive negotiations.Upon retiring from government, its political landscape helped me in my interest and support of civil and human rights through the San Jose Japanese American Citizens League. I served as the Chapter President for six years after retirement and I continue to serve on its Board of Directors now for over 40 years.I went back to work at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and managed the Santa Clara operation and then at the San Jose Restore facility until the Covid-19 pandemic hit. I now enjoy my second retirement but am looking for a new interesting venture to explore and add value.
