In the first year and a half at Kaarbontech I worked with the existing small team and introduced standards, processes, policies and automation, added new members to the team and facilitated knowledge transfer. We completed migration from multiple hosting companies to a single virtual cloud service with multi datacentre DR strategy. I rewrote puppet configuration, upgrading and separating configuration from code and improved many aspects streamlining deployments and new installations. I built a serverless asset risk scoring system using AWS CDK deploying Step Functions/lambda/Athena/API Gateway. Automated Lets Encrypt certs using AWS Codebuild and docker. Automated Cordova app builds to use Github Actions triggered from form. I used AWS to build a serverless sensor data gathering stacks. I refactored the Perl code and implemented a new login process, replacing Basic Auth with a token based system. Worked on a configuration system (custom configuration being what brings value to our customers) with JSON Schema validation to deliver changes faster with fewer issues. Worked with the Info Sec Officer; created and implemented policies, processes and best practices that enabled the company to achieve ISO27001 accreditation.Since then the focus has been on expanding the team, educating them in serverless practices and carefully migrating to AWS, converting our Perl backend to TypeScript/Node and implimenting a monorepo to support this journey.
