ABOUT LEN LAYTON

I am passionate about building products and services that enrich people’s lives through the power of sound, music and the human voice. Throughout my career I have intersected many different aspects of audio and acoustics, from hardware to software, from startups to government research laboratories to large companies and many things in between. I\'ve helped develop standards, spoken at conferences, filed patents, licensed technology, written business plans, raised money and been the CEO of a public company. I have contributed to, or initiated a few world-firsts and achieved some things that I’m really proud of- The first touchscreen-enabled virtual console system for radio broadcast in 1995 (D-RADIO, Technology R&D Australian Broadcasting Corporation)- In 1998, I conceived of and managed the first commercial roll out of surround sound in in-flight entertainment with Singapore Airlines (Lake Technology / Dolby / Singapore Airlines 1998)- Helped develop and then licensed the technology behind Dolby Headphone to Dolby Laboratories in 1998- Originated the idea of “Augmented Reality Audio” – we called it “Sonic Landscapes” - and then managed to build the first prototype system in See patents below- Contributed to the development of the USB Audio Class 2.0 standard in 2005.(C-Media Electronics)- Developed and sold one of the first wifi-based streaming audio peripherals, the Sondigo Sirocco (Layton Electronics and Networking 2005.)- Co-Founded one of the first 3D virtual-reality communication companies and developed a web-browser and mobile platform for media sharing, high quality 3D voice and more.(Mingleverse Labs, 2008) My passion for sound is nearly equalled by my passion for cricket - which has taught me teamwork, patience, and brought me much camaraderie and great friendships throughout the world.
