About Lena Krone
My name is Lena Krone and I am a Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OT) student, aspiring music industry professional, and multi-media artist. Ultimately, my goal is to bridge my passions for OT, the arts, and disability advocacy to make creative spaces more accessible. I envision a future in which public events such as music festivals offer community experiences and resources that make individuals with disabilities feel fully welcomed and comfortable. My unique professional traits that will serve me well in an unconventional leadership position are my creativity, empathy, and persistence. As a visual artist with experience in physical media including ceramics and painting, as well as with photography and graphic design, I understand the profound impact that making art has on wellbeing. I am determined to help others get in touch with this part of themselves despite obstacles. I am skilled at envisioning and acting upon innovative ideas, and have done so by facilitating community experiences such as my interactive art display at Playground Music and Arts Festival. Additionally, my empathetic nature guides me towards deep connection, a quality that helps me build rapport with clients and incorporate therapeutic activities that are meaningful to them. Finally, with my persistent mindset, I leave no stone unturned and fight for opportunities, giving me confidence that I will make the impact I so deeply desire on the music industry. The experiences that have most heavily influenced my career goals include my inpatient pediatrics fieldwork at Brooks Rehabilitation and my music internships at Topeka and Accessible Festivals. At Brooks, I engaged clients in activities that motivated them to optimize their recovery, including interacting with animals, creating art, and fishing. This experience not only built my clinical skills but also demonstrated the healing nature of creative occupations. With the non-profit Accessible Festivals, I had the privilege of creating a pitch deck to illustrate the value of disability inclusion at music festivals. Working on site with Topeka showed me that I am ready to step into a position that will allow me to propose ideas for accessible community music experiences. Finally, during my doctoral capstone at UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine, I will tailor arts experiences to diverse clients and provide a staff training on disability awareness and competence. I am ecstatic to embark on my professional journey to create a space for the critical intersection between OT and the arts.
