ABOUT LELAND J. P.
As a kid, my intellectual playground was my mother\'s salon. The afternoons there involved brainstorming what color polish to choose from and flow into what it means to give and receive love. I realized that by becoming an intimate thought partner, I felt the power of how tender communities form through what I now understand as third places. My appreciation of people, their vulnerability, and their encompassing struggles with the world around them leads me to study Political Science with an interdisciplinary concentration (disability studies, ethnic studies, gender and women studies, and sociology) in critical and ethical mental health. Through my engagement with multiple policy domains, activists, academics, and artists, my interest in political sociology and critical mental health creates a generative microcosm of decolonizing mental health and how restorative rest may play a reparative role in public policy and public service.
