ABOUT LEIGH MCDONOUGH

I am a Legal Director in the Court of Protection team at Barcan and Kirby. I specialise in managing the property and financial affairs of people who are not capable of doing so themselves due to a brain injury. I work with clients with extremely complex needs and the aim of my work is to support them in their journey following a life altering injury; working closely with them, their loves ones and their professional team to ensure their best interests are protected and advocated for. As well as the day to day management of an individual’s property and financial affairs, my role includes preparing applications to the Court of Protection, which include but are not limited to, the appointment of a Property and Financial Affairs Deputy (both lay and professional), Statutory Wills, gifting, and the purchase or sale of properties. I work closely with our Personal Injury and Medical Negligence teams to provide litigation support from a Court of Protection perspective. This includes managing interim payments for clients when a claim is still ongoing. My background is in Wills and Probate and I can advise on Deputyships, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Statutory Wills and Personal Injury Trusts.
