ABOUT LEIF LOVIG
I am passionate about finding creative solutions to complex real-world problems, in real-time. With the dawn of personalized medicine, we as a medical community have begun to recognize the fact that no two patients are identical- individual responses to standardized treatments are highly variable. This is particularly true in my field of Pediatric Cardiology, where there are a seemingly limitless number of ways for cardiac development and physiology to go awry. The relative lack of evidence-based care guidelines in Pediatric Cardiology, coupled with the striking variability in clinical features in children with congenital heart disease tends to create a highly complex and ambiguous set of problems that Pediatric Cardiologists must navigate in real-time. I have always found that solving complex, dynamic, ambiguous problems in my field requires three basic components: 1- A deep and nuanced understanding of the underlying pathophysiologic, clinical, and environmental mechanisms 2- Having a \"good eye\", or the ability to see the underlying mechanisms at work 3- The ability to marry that deep understanding with unencumbered creativity to find novel solutions. I believe that this approach can be adapted to any complex problem and am excited to leverage these skills to tackle complex problems, both within healthcare, and in other industries.
