About Leif Sieben
I am a student of Interdisciplinary Sciences at ETH Zürich studying chemistry, biology and computer science. My interests have always been interdisciplinary and I\'ve greatly enjoyed being able to pursue a wide range of subjects at depth.This has been reflected in the research I do as well, which has always combined disciplines, be it in gyrotron physics, greenhouse gas sensing, or drug discovery. I’ve worked as a research assistant since my 2nd semester at ETH Zürich and have always valued the mission-driven, collaborative nature of scientific work. I\'m driven by the desire to see my work have an impact and bring new technology to real-world impact.Most recently, I completed my Master\'s thesis at MIT and the Broad Institute with Prof. Jim J. Collins, where I used machine learning to accelerate antibiotic discovery. The project combined experimental data with computational methods to screen billions of virtual molecules and optimize compound selection through novel algorithmic strategies.I\'m comfortable working in both traditional wet-lab environments and computational settings, with a strong foundation in machine learning, large-scale data analysis, and experience using high-performance computing and cloud-based infrastructure.
