ABOUT LEIF ZUMSTEIN

I finished my BS in Geography: Earth/Atmospheric Science with a Spanish Minor in 2011. During my last semester of undergrad I had an internship at WBOC-16 TV in Salisbury, MD as a Meteorologist Intern. After graduation I continued my education at Salisbury University in the Masters of GIS Management Program and was awarded with an assistant-ship in the Geography Department. I finished my studies in July 2012 and walked for graduation in December 2012. After an internship with iMapData, I acquired a job as a Junior Geospatial Analyst with Zekiah Technologies and served the Department of Homeland Security as a contractor from August 2012 to June 2016. I was promoted to an Intermediate Geospatial Analyst with Zekiah in June 2014 while supporting DHS full-time, as well as various other contracts part-time. In June 2016, I took a job with Geospatial Consulting Group International, and worked as a GIS/Imagery Analyst on a US Marine Corps contract for a year. I returned to Zekiah Technologies in June 2017 and supported a US Navy contract as a Senior GIS Engineer. I additionally managed Zekiah employees performing work on Zekiah\'s MD State Highway Administration contract, a US Coast Guard project, and our DHS effort. In October 2020, I took on a new role as a Data Modeler/Data Scientist with RoyceGeo. The work supported the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and focused on training NGA employees on workflow/tradecraft automation using the programs: JEMA and Brewlytics, as well as creating custom tools using python in ArcGIS and ArcGIS Notebooks within an organization ArcGIS Enterprise environment. In May 2022 I took on a new role as a GIS Engineer at the Office of Naval Intelligence in Suitland, MD. My responsibilities in this role revolved around maintaining and extending the functionality of the ArcGIS Enterprise solution, and providing the analysts with access to relevant data and training to utilize the Portal for their analysis workflows. I\'ve since continued down the data science track to support customers at both the DoD and USAF in recent years. Most of my job experience is GIS analysis related, but I have increasingly moved toward a GIS development/engineering and data modeling/science role, particularly using python and additional automation product suites, to streamline data processing workflows. I frequently attend GIS conferences/meetings (ESRI FUC, ESRI IUC, MSGIC meetings, etc.) to continue advancing my skill set.
