ABOUT LEI CHEN
Professor Lei Chen is Chair in International Arbitration and Chinese Law at Durham Law School, Durham University. He was elected as a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2024 and a Titular Member of the International Academy of Comparative Law in 2021. Professor Chen serves as a member of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China. He joined Newmans Row in June 2025 as an independent arbitrator and was called to the Bar of England and Wales at the Inner Temple. Professor Chen is a Visiting Distinguished Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shandong University, an Adjunct Professor at City University of Hong Kong, and an Honorary Professor at University of Galway, Ireland. Professor Chen’s research focuses on comparative private and commercial law and international arbitration. He is a seasoned arbitrator by serving on the panel arbitrators in a number of leading arbitration institutions around the globe.
