ABOUT LEE SMITH

Lee is co-author of People-First Internal Communication, which sets out a bold new vision for the IC profession in the age of AI. With more than three decades experience, gained in house and agency side, he is one of the UK’s foremost internal communication specialists. As Strategy Partner at IC Partners he works with global clients to shape their strategies, deliver change and build performance. And through his work at The EX Space, the global learning community for everything \'people-first\', he is focused on equipping people practitioners with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to create a better working world. Alongside his professional work, Lee is founder and owner of marine conservation spirits brand, Lost Years Rum. The premium rum brand with a purpose, Lost Years has so far saved more than endangered sea turtles through its collaboration with US charity, SEE Turtles. Its rums are available in more than 150 UK outlets, including Adnams and Drake & Morgan. Up until 2019, Lee was at Gatehouse, the London-based employee communication consultancy he co-founded with Simon Wright in 2006. There he advised CEOs and senior leaders at some of the biggest businesses in the UK, US and a globally, as well as major public and third sector organisations. During his time at Gatehouse he launched the groundbreaking State of the Sector research. The business was acquired by Gallagher in December 2017. Lee created and led the Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) and IABC-backed Accelerate programme - a flagship global training programme for internal communicators. He is also Past Chair of CIPR Inside, the employee communication group of the UK\'s Chartered Institute of Public Relations. Prior to setting up Gatehouse he was Head of Internal Communication for the global accountancy firm EY and Head of Communications with the HBoS group.
