I have been in the media all my working life and I believe that managing your PR – and your messages – has never been more vital. I appreciate it’s a cliché but with social media, and 24 hour rolling news, stories can take on a life of their own – whether good or bad. My career has spanned three decades and has encompassed newspapers, broadcast and digital. In that time I’ve worked alongside some of the leading journalists and broadcasters in the country. I guess I understand the media well and I’ve been lucky enough to transfer those skills into helping clients with their communications challenges. I’ve been running my own agencies for more than 25 years delivering impressive results for a variety of businesses (large and small), government – local, national and European – and NGOs. I’m able to speak with journalists in their language, negotiate to get the best outcomes for both sides. while at the same time managing clients’ expectations. I’m often called upon by the media to comment on issues of the day: my agency was featured on Channel 4’s Boss Swap, where I swopped places with my opposite number at a carrier bag company.
