Leadership is more than telling people what to do; it is not about getting people to follow you, but it is defining objectives, creating strategic plans, teaching your team to make good decisions and turning them into future leaders themselves. For more than 10 years, I have been leading people, managing programs and guiding organizations to excel using these methods. One of the defining moments of my career was when I learned that I don’t have to do everything myself. I realized that if I can train and empower my team with the knowledge and tools they need for success and gain their buy in to the organization’s mission, that most people will find a way to succeed.During my Air Force career, I became known as a transformative leader who was often sent in to failing organizations, programs or projects. After some root cause analysis, I always found the way to “right the ship” and get them back on track to success. It was likely this track record of operational success that led to my being hand-selected to manage high-level USAF programs that impacted as many as 46K personnel and $43B in program assets while shaping the future of the Air Force’s F-35 sustainment program. As a strategic, analytical thinker, I can balance seeing the big picture of where the organization wants to go with the fine details of how to make those things happen. I am an innovator who is not satisfied with the status quo and I enjoy working on new technology, new processes and procedures and identifying best practices that can be rolled out organization-wide.As my military service comes to a close and I prepare to embark on the next chapter of my career, I am looking for a program management role where I can leverage these skills.
