ABOUT LEE MCGIRR

I am an award winning Data Protection Officer with more than 18 years’ experience leading and delivering Compliance and Data Protection programmes across several sectors including retail, financial services, transport, professional services and central government. I am a passionate, proactive and pragmatic leader who enables the organisations I work for to meet its goals whilst complying with all relevant legislation. In 2022, my team won Privacy Team of the year at the prestigious PICASSO privacy awards which recognised the transformation my team produced under my leadership. I have excellent communication and influencing skills which enables me to work with colleagues and Board level, taking a risk based and commercially sensitive approach when implementing Data Protection programmes and providing pragmatic advice and guidance to the business. My greatest skill is my ability to build strong working and collaborative relationships with senior management and relevant stakeholders.In my current role, I have implemented a robust data protection framework that covers policies, procedures, training, audits, and incident management. I have also championed the Privacy by Design culture, ensuring that data privacy impact assessments are conducted for all projects that process personal data. I have successfully managed complex and sensitive data sharing agreements, data subject access requests, and data breach investigations. I have also developed strong relationships with regulators, such as the ICO.
