ABOUT LEE MCDERMOTT

Experienced Officer with a demonstrated history of working strategically in the higher education sector, holding a CMI Level 7 Award in Strategic Approaches to Equality Diversity and Inclusion. Led on the University of Cumbria\'s Stonewall Silver Award success in 2022, Disability Confident Leader validation, White Ribbon Accreditation and the 2023 Educate North Award shortlisting in the DEI category. Project team member for the 2023 Athena Swan Institutional Bronze success, Race Equality Charter developments and University of Sanctuary. Co-chair of the Staff LGBTQ+ Network, founding member of the Disabilty and Neurodivergent Network (DANN), Menopause Group and Parents and Carers Network. Skilled in Report Writing, LGBTQ+ Equality, Gender Equality, Race Equality, Multi-Site Responsibility, and Collaborative Work. Currently working in a specialist role based in HR, supporting 5 campuses in Carlisle, Lancaster, Ambleside and London. Key areas of focus include compliance, equality impact assessments and collaborative working, which are proactively delivered in a timely manner. Committed to delivering a schedule of events linked to diversity dates and the university\'s equality objectives, in order to raise awareness and foster good relations. Networking and collaboration with internal and external colleagues ensures greater success and positive development to further the diversity agenda at the university, with membership on numerous steering groups and networks as an active critical friend. Strong professional with a vested personal and professional commitment to EDI, with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Sport Development and Coaching from Northumbria University.
