ABOUT LEANNE STEWART

Biosecurity within the management of New Zealand’s phytosanitary system and at the international level reviewing global plant health have been both my passion and employment. Building on this experience, my current role within industry provides a new opportunity to manage biosecurity risk to the kiwifruit industry in New Zealand. My roles have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the management and issues faced within plant health systems at the industry, national, regional and global levels.My academic qualifications and professional experience at the Ministry for Primary Industries gave me unique opportunities to manage projects for the technical development, implementation and review of phytosanitary and operational standards to facilitate safe trade. Conversely, my experience at International Plant Protection Convention leading the review of global plant health implementation has provided me with a policy and strategic understanding of plant health systems, particularly in relation to international agreements and the obligations of member countries. Since returning to New Zealand I worked for Horticulture New Zealand and Process Vegetables New Zealand, combining all of my previous experience to work in the interests of growers within the horticulture industry. I have undertaken extensive stakeholder coordination and engagement and possess strong communication, networking and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships. I work well under pressure, leading busy work programmes while maintaining high standards of work. It is my personal philosophy to lead with purpose to achieve results, while maintaining a strong sense of integrity and respect for others. I am a professional individual who takes pride in seeking opportunities and challenges for personal growth.
