ABOUT LEANNE COOK

With over 20 years of experience in mental health, I have dedicated my career to supporting adults on their journey of recovery. I specialise in perinatal mental health, providing compassionate, evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to parents experiencing problems such as anxiety, depression, birth trauma, OCD, and complex bereavement. My work is guided by a person-centered approach, which values the needs of each individual, supporting the parent-infant bond and including the role of carers and social supports. As a Perinatal Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust, I strive to create meaningful, inclusive care that empowers individuals and families to thrive. Highlights of my work include adapting interventions for perinatal anxiety and collaborating within national networks to advance best practices in perinatal CBT. Beyond clinical practice, I am a PhD candidate researching perinatal mental health and CBT, and an active member of professional groups, including the NHS North West Coast Clinical Network and the BABCP Specialist Interest Group for Perinatal CBT. These groups provide collaboration to champion innovation, share knowledge, and drive progress in perinatal mental health care. My career spans diverse roles across mental health services: crisis intervention, home treatment, perinatal outreach, and mental health nursing. Whether supporting parents in their recovery, supporting carers, or collaborating with colleagues, my focus remains the same: delivering care that is compassionate, inclusive, and person centred. I believe recovery is a journey that no one should face alone. By fostering understanding, connection, and empowerment, to support parents and their infant to achieve lasting well-being.
