ABOUT LEANN MCLAUGHLIN
Uro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist since April 2021 specialising in prostate cancer with a background in Colorectal/endoscopy nursing. Qualified in TRUS prostate biopsy and have just qualified at Edgehill University in Transperineal Biopsy. A recent Prostate Cancer UK Clinical Champion on the 2022/23 programme and currently on the Prostate Cancer UK Clinical Advisory Group and Prostate Scotland PAGES Advisory Group. Current role includes oncology follow up for prostate cancer patients, monitoring of active surveillance/watchful wait and post RALP patients, benign prostate assessment clinic, two week wait clinic and MDT results, managing the patient autonomously from pre diagnosis through to treatment. Experienced in bladder dysfunction, intravesicle chemotherapy and benign treatments also. Previously gained an MSc Advancing Healthcare Practice, Post Graduate Diploma in Prostate Cancer Care and Non Medical Prescriber qualifications. Currently on a Clinical Doctorate Programme researching health inequalities and their impact on prostate cancer outcomes/masculinity. Past Trustee at British Association of Urology Nurses. Previously a finalist in Sheffield Hallams Most Inspirational Individual Award, Bronze Award Winner in Urology Nurse of the Year 2023 and Gold Winner in Continence and Urology Nurse of the Year 2025 at British Journal of Nursing Awards. Have just gained a place as one of 30 oncology nurses from across Europe selected to study Advanced Oncology with European Oncology Nursing Society in Italy this year.
