I currently cover education, five school districts, the Dubois County libraries and the Town of Ferdinand. As a life-long student, I\'ve found my passion in covering our school districts, libraries and the issues they face. When I went into journalism, I wanted my work to make a difference for people. I see my coverage and my skills doing that best when I\'m covering our county\'s schools and libraries. My current position is almost identical to the one I held in my first year. Then, I covered education for The Herald. I covered five school corporations and state issues as well as two library systems. During the year, I covered building projects, a general fund referendum for Northeast Dubois Schools and some social change issues at the schools. For the libraries, I covered a unique building project that is still ongoing. It is bringing the Jasper Community Arts Commission and the Jasper Public Library into one building, dubbed the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center. The beginning of that project included a property tax referendum for the library. I also wrote several feature stories for our paper\'s Saturday Feature, a unique Saturday publication that offers readers one in-depth story on Saturday. For the next two years, I covered the City of Jasper where I gained experience in covering local government. I continued covering the libraries and the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center. The two years were major years for development in Jasper, so the bulk of my articles focused on various projects, including a 75-acre park in the middle of the city, The Parklands. In my third year, I switched back to covering education, still retaining coverage of the libraries. This time, the education beat came with covering the Town of Ferdinand as well. I\'m still covering the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center, and I plan to cover the project until it\'s completed, hopefully in 2020.
