ABOUT LEAH MAYO

I am an Assistant Professor and the Parker Psychedelics Research Chair at the Mathison Center for Mental Health Research and Education, the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary. Learn more about our research at Our research group focuses on developing novel cannabinoid- and psychedelic-based pharmacotherapuetic options for stress-related disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use disorders. We use a combination of research methods, including neuroimaging, psychophysiology, behavioral measures, and self-report assessments to gain mechanistic insights using these compounds in both healthy and clinical populations. We work with a multidisciplinary team that includes researchers, clinicians, therapists, and other healthcare workers. Prior to arriving in Calgary in Fall 2022, I was an Assistant Professor at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience at Linköping University, Sweden. I received my PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Chicago (2015) and a BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan (2009).
