WORK HISTORY
Research Biomedical Engineer, Human in Complex Systems Division @U.S. Army Devcom Army Research Laboratory
As Principal Investigator, I spearheaded a large research project that investigated the use of biomechanical and physiological response data to capture soldier tactical engagement and readiness responses. This effort will be used to guide development of algorithms/models to build more efficient human-artificial intelligence (AI) systems communication technology. I maintained oversight of team efforts and directed both civilian and contractor staff on weekly tasks. I developed an extensive research protocol using emerging technology (Quest Pro Virtual Reality, Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), simulated rifles) and wrote regulatory human research protection (IRB) documentation. I created processing codes (MATLAB) to structure data and extract meaningful variables. This work will utilize more complicated data analytics tools, such as dimensionality reduction (Principal Component Analysis) and hierarchal clustering models to classify/detect key physical movement behaviors in the tactical readiness cycle. Thus far, a pilot study demonstrated successful synchronizations of signals and distinct clusters of behaviors linked to tactical events. As a specialist working on this and other projects in my role with DEVCOM, I interfaced with collaborators and transition partners to ensure products met hand-off expectations. I also designed a model validation pipeline to build a novel competency model for tech fluency and cross-collaborated with other DOD agencies.
