Head of Construction at Unite Group plc, responsible for the strategic leadership and delivery of Unite’s national new-build construction pipeline in support of the company’s long-term growth and investment strategy. I lead construction delivery from feasibility and pre-construction through procurement, build, handover and post-completion, working closely with Development, Commercial, ESG and City Operations teams.I provide strategic input at planning and feasibility stages, shaping buildability, programme certainty, cost control and risk management across a complex, multi-project portfolio. Since joining Unite in 2017, I have delivered new student beds, leading multidisciplinary consultant teams, contractors and supply-chain partners to achieve demanding safety, quality, programme and financial KPIs.Sustainability and ESG performance are central to my role. I have played a key role in delivering Unite’s Net Zero Carbon strategy for new-build schemes, embedding whole-life carbon principles into design, procurement and construction. This includes driving reductions in embodied carbon, improving operational energy performance and supporting the delivery of ongoing environmental and operational carbon targets across the portfolio, aligned with Unite’s wider ESG commitments.Prior to Unite, I worked at Cushman & Wakefield and Tesco Property after completing Tesco’s Property Graduate Programme. My experience spans new-build, refurbishment, mixed-use and complex change-of-use developments, including the award-winning Mandrake Hotel in Fitzrovia.I am passionate about building high-performing teams, developing future leaders and creating strong, trusted relationships across the business and supply chain. Outside of work, I remain actively involved in competitive sport, including rugby, running, amateur triathlons, cycling and golf.

ABOUT LAWRENCE MULLIGAN
Responsible for the delivery of our new build pipeline involving strategic input at feasibility and planning stages. Working within our development team and having input from site acquisition, delivery and handover to city team operations. Key responsibilities include the procurement and delivery of our new build pipeline as part of Unite’s growth strategy. I have a proven background in delivering high value and complex projects whilst leading a team of consultants and contractors strategically. My current (and previous role with Cushman & Wakefield) have demanded the management of both internal and external stakeholders and coordinating project delivery to demanding programmes, quality and financial KPI’s.I joined The Unite Group in 2017; my previous role was with Cushman & Wakefield and Tesco’s Property having held a number of positions after graduating from the Property Graduate Programme. These included the UK’s first Carbon Zero Retail Store before taking up a Construction Project Management role in Property Development. In this role I developed new and existing sites - leading the retail fit out and mixed use developments in and around London.My time with Cushman & Wakefield included various projects for clients in the Financial, Hospitality and Residential sectors for private and corporate clients. I also have experience in office to Serviced Apartment and Hotel conversions having delivered the award winning Mandrake Hotel in Fitzrovia, London – opening in 2017.I’m passionate about working with high performing teams and individuals and creating high value relationships with peers. I play competitive sport on a regular basis, especially Rugby, very amateur triathlon events, cycling and golf.
