About Lawrence McKinney
I\'m a PhD scientist with deep expertise in oncology, translational strategy, and drug development. I am currently a Program Manager at Genentech, where I support cross-functional teams across early- and late-stage product development — managing critical path, portfolio strategy, and translational planning for programs in development. My training is intentionally dual-track. I hold a PhD in Biological and Biomedical Sciences and an MPH in Epidemiology, both from Morehouse School of Medicine — a combination that gives me fluency across molecular science, clinical research, and population health. That background informs how I approach program management: not just as a logistical function, but as a strategic one, with a clear eye on how research decisions translate into patient and population outcomes. My experience spans bioinformatics, qualitative and quantitative research, translational medicine, and health equity — with early-career work at both Genentech and Biogen that grounded me in how large pharma organizations move science from bench to bedside. I bring rigorous analytical thinking, strong cross-functional communication, and a commitment to inclusive research practices to every team I support. At the core of all of it is a question I\'ve carried since growing up in Rivera Beach, Florida: why does the science so often know what to do, but whole communities never benefit from it? That question drives the rigor I bring to translational strategy and the lens I apply to population health — because the best science is only as meaningful as the systems built to deliver it.
