Developed improved workflow processes for existing high throughput magnetic bead based nucleic acid isolation kits. • Developed and performed experiments that directly compared Thermo Fisher Kingfisher automated nucleic acid extraction instruments and magnetic bead isolation kits to competitors instruments (Qiagen Qiacube/EZ2, Perkin Elmer Chemagic and Promega Maxwell). I was able with a lab partner to perform this comparative study in less than 6 months across various sample types (blood, saliva, buccal swabs). In all, we identified both advantages for the Kingfisher as well as areas of improvement, and developed “battle cards” to be used by marketing groups. • Oversaw data analysis and weekly reporting of experimentation to direct research group. Summarized data in high level fashion to larger research, marketing/sales and project manager groups on biweekly/monthly basis with goal of improving market share for Kingfisher instruments and MagMax Isolation kits. • Made significant and independent contribution to team effort which successfully met custom DNA extraction specification goals for large biobank in United Kingdom. This effort had an accelerated timeline of about a month as Thermo was in competition with other companies. Ultimately, this effort led to Thermo being awarded this large contract ($3-5 million dollars per year over 3-5 years). • Designed and executed experimentation aimed at removing hazardous/toxic chemicals from nucleic acid extraction buffers as part of effort to meet REACH program regulations in European Union.
