About Lawrence Chalfin
I’m Lawrence Chalfin, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Samuelson Furniture, a fourth-generation, family-owned company that’s been making fine furniture for over 90 years. Since joining in 1974, after studying at NYU and Julliard, I’ve led the company in creating high-quality, custom-designed pieces for hospitality, residential, and senior living spaces, serving global brands like Rosewood Hotels, Disney, Hyatt, Hilton, Four Seasons and Intercontinental.Growing up in a family of renowned chairmakers, I’ve always had a passion for furniture—pieces crafted with integrity and built to last. I transitioned Samuelson from hand-carved reproduction furniture to premium casegoods and seating for luxury hotels, a shift that’s been both rewarding and aligned with our commitment to quality and creativity.In addition to hospitality, I expanded into senior living spaces, offering custom solutions for assisted living, independent living, and memory care communities. Our leadership in this market is further demonstrated by our partnership with the Ageless Living Collaborative, awarding Senior Living Design Scholarships to emerging designers.I also oversee our operations in China and Vietnam, ensuring the high standards we’ve built are maintained globally. My son, Michael Chalfin, President, and I visit regularly to uphold our standards for excellence.In 2021, I was named NEWH’s ICON of Industry, and in 2024, our BUILD Walls platform earned recognition at the HD Awards for innovation in millwork.At Samuelson, we focus on creating “real” furniture—beautiful, durable pieces crafted with traditional skills and modern technology. I’m proud to lead the company into the future, building on a legacy of doing things the right way.
