Principal Engineer working on the company’s genomic analysis software and hybrid infrastructure. The software is mainly Python on Linux. It runs on AWS and on-premises systems with high performance computing clusters and very large (90 petabyte) storage systems.Main achievements- Designed and led a team of engineers implementing a secure environment for external users’ untrusted applications using Linux containerization and other security techniques- Designed and led a project to reorganise and migrate a very large datastore from an on-prem system to AWS S3- Wrote data discovery utilities in Python and C++ to analyze the company’s 90 petabyte distributed data store. This was a breakthrough that allowed the company to understand their data in a completely new way, enabling de-duplication, archiving and backup. The utilities use multithreading and several novel optimisations to scan many billions of files very quickly- Wrote several architecture documents for moving the company’s core applications to AWS and for implementing disaster recovery, backup and archiving- Mentored the new leader of a team developing and maintaining a high performance computing cluster.
