About Thomas W.
Tom has been coding since Fourth Grade. For fun and sometimes profit, he has worked on projects at all levels of the technology stack, from chip design to the interplanetary file system. Today, he works with great people at Tiktok USDS as SRE Tech Lead for multiple database platforms. Previously, he worked with a great team at Skytap to manage a global storage footprint, and later a stellar team at Meta on the infra platforms supporting over three billion users. Tom has also done feature engineering for natural language processing in fintech, has contributed to open source projects including Keras, NodeJS, and IPFS, has implemented distributed photon mapping from scratch, worked with ETL pipelines, transaction logs, message queues, containerization engines, k8s, AWS, S3, ILO, BMC, Ansible, Puppet, and whatever technology turned out to be most useful at the time.He has also worked in fields that give him great experience doing extensive high-value, tight-deadline, and precise work on multiple teams. As a lawyer, Tom has worked on matters ranging from lawsuits over the ownership of Manhattan buildings to contracts and corporate organizational documents, and he has interacted with many different kinds of people, from individuals in distress to homeowners to C-suite officers.Tom authored the UN-acclaimed anti-human trafficking novel “River of Innocents,” has been published in the New York Law Journal, the American Criminal Law Review, and other legal contexts, and has two children’s books forthcoming.
