The McGrath lab is working to visualize the adaptive radiation of Lake Malawi Cichlids. In lab, the DNA of many cichlid variations is isolated and quantified onto computer software in order to compare the genome of the sampled individuals to the reference genome of Maylandia zebra. Through this process, the mutated genes can be targeted, observed, and manipulated in future research.
