As a Crop Production Specialist, I manage and oversee research, training, and commercial crop production within controlled environment agriculture at University Centre Reaseheath. My role bridges industry-led research, education, and sustainable food production.Research & Innovation: Conduct industry-driven trials in our hydroponic research glasshouse and 250m² vertical farm, focusing on next-generation fertilizers to improve nutrient efficiency, biostimulants for enhanced drought tolerance and recovery, and new product development for vertical farming applications.Education & Training: Lead and mentor a cohort of Crop Technician apprentices, providing hands-on training and technical knowledge to prepare them for careers in protected cropping. Deliver practical demonstrations and guidance on hydroponics, vertical farming, and sustainable agriculture.Farm to Fork Initiative: Contribute to the Farm to Fork Initiative, producing sustainable food for the University Centre, college, and local community. Promote environmentally responsible food production, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and food security.Commercial Crop Production & Sustainability: Lead a small team in growing high-quality commercial crops, ensuring optimal yields, minimal waste, and efficient resource use. Implement strategies to reduce pesticide reliance, optimize logistical processes, and enhance fertilizer efficiency to support sustainable, data-driven food production.I am passionate about advancing controlled environment agriculture and collaborating with industry leaders to develop innovative, sustainable solutions for future food production.
