At Blue Ridge PRISM (Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management), our core purpose is to improve the health of our natural world for future generations. We envision a Virginia where people protect and value our natural areas, and whole communities respond to the call for early detection and rapid response to manage invasive plants. Our \"Big Hairy Audacious Goal\" is to reverse the spread of invasive plants in Virginia by 2050. Founded in 2014 as Virginia’s first Cooperative Weed Management Area, PRISM is the statewide leader in education, training, and advocacy on invasive plants. Our programs help restore forests and watersheds, protect native wildlife and habitat, steward healthy landscapes through active monitoring and care, and sustain progress through long-term partnerships and effective policy. Our mission is built on four pillars- Restore: We train volunteers to identify invasives and remove them to return landscapes to a healthy state- Protect: We use early detection and rapid response (EDRR) to prevent new invasive species from gaining a foothold in the landscapes we love- Steward: We foster community engagement, education, and on-the-ground monitoring to prevent the spread of invasive plants- Sustain: We champion long-term partnerships, legislative policy, and scientific research to strengthen our natural heritage.
