Cardiff, GB

In my role at Localgiving, my primary responsibilities include leading on regional grant programmes, partnership development, facilitating project delivery and reporting, as well as community research and engagement. This includes launching new grant programmes in specific geographical regions, identifying the local needs and priorities for funding support. This involves analysing regional data and undertaking detailed quantitative research into regions. I examine demographic trends, deprivation indicators, health statistics, employment data and other key measures. This gives us an evidence base for understanding the scale and nature of challenges facing different communities. I then carefully review the strategic plans and priorities published by each relevant Local Authority, as well as information from Community Councils and local planning partnerships. This work ensures our funding themes align with the priorities that local democratic bodies have already identified. I then conduct in-depth interviews with third sector experts that have direct experience of supporting communities on the ground. These conversations help us understand the lived reality behind the statistics and identify needs that might not appear in official data. I then summarise and analyse these findings, presenting them through PowerPoint and reporting documents. Based on this research, I would then establish broad funding themes. Within these, each geographical area then has specific local priorities that I have found to best reflect regional differentiation and these are used to establish guidance for applicants and grant panels. I then lead on monitoring and reporting after grant delivery.

ABOUT LAUREN SWAIN

My current role is Regional Programmes Manager for Localgiving. My primary responsibilities include leading on regional grant programmes, partnership development, facilitating project delivery and reporting, as well as community research and engagement. This includes launching new grant programmes in specific geographical regions, identifying the local needs and priorities for funding support. Localgiving is an online fundraising platform and membership based organisation that works with all charitable organisations, including those who aren\'t registered charities and we uniquely provide Gift Aid to all of our members. Since 2012, over active charitable organisations have been supported to raise and receive over £50m online. We facilitate and support community causes across the UK to explore online fundraising, access grants and succeed at growing their income sustainably. Our members receive help to create online donation pages and we run an increasing number of grants programmes, distributing funds UK-wide.Previously, I worked as Wales National Manager for Localgiving, supporting over 500 charitable organisations across every county in Wales to explore online fundraising. I aided them in raising over £3.1million in donations. I collaborated with 35 third sector partners, delivered 130 workshops and provided 510 1:1 training and support sessions, across over 150 locations. Since our Wales programme came to its natural end, I now primarily lead on a grassroots grant programme in Scotland. Alongside this my main ongoing responsibilities include partnership development, running UK-wide webinars and leading on reporting across Localgiving\'s other multiple UK-wide grant programmes. Localgiving has recently launched a unique AI grant tool to empower community organisations to access the world of AI, fully tailored to their needs as small charitable groups, including project planning, grant finding and support in generating first draft grant applications. As part of this offer, I will also be providing a supported service to secure grants on behalf of members.Prior to this role, in 2015, I went onto work as Fundraising Executive at The Funding Centre. I was seconded to MS Society Cymru in the role of Interim Fundraising Manager for Wales, focusing on community fundraising and national campaign products. I greatly enjoy working in the third sector and the engaging, diverse workload that it provides, making a difference to many causes and those they help. I am also involved in youth work and help run an annual youth camp.@LaurenSwain_LG
