About Lauren Kunis

Lauren Kunis has dedicated her career to strengthening democracy through voter education, civic engagement, and government accountability programs around the world and at home in the United States. As CEO and Executive Director of VoteRiders since 2021, she has led the organization through unprecedented growth in addressing the increasingly crucial issue of voter ID. In 2024, TIME Magazine named her one of its inaugural Democracy Defenders, and she was recognized in the first Democracy Heroes cohort by the Rockefeller Foundation, I am a Voter, and HeadCount.Previously, as National Voter Registration Day program director at Nonprofit VOTE, the campaign achieved record-breaking voter registrations in 2020 under her leadership. Lauren’s prior experience spans work with the National Democratic Institute and World Bank across 15 countries in the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, as well as roles in national electoral campaigns and local government and advocacy campaigns. Lauren holds a BA in Government from Cornell University and an MPA in Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy from NYU.

Voter ID laws could deny millions of American citizens their right to vote. VoteRiders helps voters get the ID information and documents needed to make their voices heard at the ballot box. VoteRiders is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. Founded in 2012, our programs include: 1) Voter ID Assistance: Helping eligible voters every step of the way to get the ID they need to vote, Including information and practical assistance with transportation, documentation, and costs of securing ID to vote. 2) Voter ID Education and Outreach: We inform people about voter ID requirements and clarify the widespread confusion about voter ID, its relationship to voter registration, and other voting rights issues. 3) On-the-Ground Partnerships: We partner with local organizations to identify, inform and help voters with voter ID, especially those most at risk of losing their right to vote. 4) Volunteer Programs: Our volunteers help spread the word about voter ID laws via virtual text-banking, letter-writing, phone calls, and more. They also are trained to support our Helpline and Chatbot operations and to help voters obtain ID.
