I work with students coming from dozens of middle schools across the Denver metro area to Arrupe Jesuit High School, many of whom arrive with widely varying levels of academic preparation. My role is to elevate their reading and writing skills to a rigorous, college-preparatory standard. I design and implement a curriculum grounded in diverse, culturally relevant texts that reflect students’ identities and lived experiences.My instruction emphasizes critical thinking, close reading, and academic writing, while also fostering student voice and agency. I create space for students to engage deeply with literature, develop arguments, and communicate their ideas confidently and authentically. I differentiate instruction to meet the unique needs of each learner, bridge gaps in foundational skills, and empower students to see themselves as capable, college-bound scholars.
