ABOUT LAUREN DARSHAN
Hey! I am a part-time Master’s student in Egyptology at the University of Manchester, building on a First-Class undergraduate degree in the subject from the University of Liverpool. My academic and professional journey so far has combined a strong research foundation with hands-on museum and heritage experience.During my undergraduate studies, I worked with the Garstang Museum of Archaeology, contributing to the Before Egypt exhibition and helping to digitise John Garstang’s excavation notes for the University of Liverpool Library. I also catalogued artefacts, managed social media pages, assisted with tours and displays, and supported many activities behind the scenes. In addition, I was part of Liverpool’s photogrammetry research team, digitising 3D models of the museum archive for online access via Sketchfab. Outside academia, I gained professional experience as a Recruitment Consultant with James Adams Group, specialising in the marketing sector. I worked with a wide range of organisations - from start-ups and media agencies to banks, corporate firms, and household brand names. I built strong client relationships, won exclusive projects, and placed candidates from executive through to VP level. I was fortunate to be named top biller in my team once, which gave me the opportunity to further build my skills in business development, stakeholder management, and strategic communication.As I begin my master’s, I am developing a research focus on how royal Egyptian women in positions of power, particularly Hatshepsut, have been portrayed and remembered through history, especially in relation to gender studies and feminist scholarship. Alongside my studies, I am passionate about engaging wider audiences with Egyptology through digital content creation. My goal is to combine academic research with public engagement, making the subject more accessible while pursuing a career in Egyptology. When I’m not studying or working at the Black Country Living Museum, you’ll usually find me watching true crime documentaries, gaming on my PC or Nintendo Switch, or wandering around museums and art galleries. I also run a TikTok account sharing bite-sized Egyptology content (which has views so far!)- and in my spare time, I love teaching my parrot new tricks.
