Indigenous Tourism Micro-credential - Curriculum Development and Instruction (May - Sep 2022) The micro-credential is based on and adapted from an existing course (THM 107), and teaches hotel operations, guest services, team work and leadership, and communications. Nuu-chah-nulth applied teaching, which will be customized to ensure local language, culture and indigenous perspectives are integrated throughout the learning.*This course is co-taught with an (amazing!) indigenous language instructor. The micro-credential also includes a cooperative work term, which I am facilitating for students. Leadership & Management in Tourism & Hospitality (Fall 2018 semester) Entrepreneurship in Tourism (Winter 2017 semester) The purpose of this course is to provide tourism and hospitality students with opportunities to learn about a broad range of business and entrepreneurial skills including, but not limited to planning and research, business writing, marketing, accounting, finances, human resources, sales, and operations. Using a broad range of online, print, and digital resources, students will creatively and professionally explore how to develop and evaluate ideas, communicate business concepts across a variety of channels and to different audiences, and create a comprehensive business plan for a tourism operation. Law & Ethics in Tourism and Hospitality (Winter 2016 semester) The purpose of this course is to provide learners with an understanding of the legal responsibility of tourism and hospitality operators. Learners will first develop an understanding of how the legal system is structure and applied, what an operator’s responsibility is in preventing legal problems, and then demonstrate how this applies to the sectors of accommodation, food and beverage, adventure, and travel. Learners will have the opportunity to research and present information and cases from relevant sectors of the industry.
